In the first year of study, students build a strong foundation across key areas of computing and information technology. They begin by developing essential programming skills and learning how computers and systems function at a technical level. The curriculum introduces core concepts in data handling, from database structures to the principles of data science, helping students understand how to organize, interpret, and extract insights from information. Foundational mathematics is covered through topics like logic, functions, and discrete structures—critical tools for problem-solving in computing. Students are also introduced to software design principles, including object-oriented thinking, and explore practical applications of cybersecurity in real-world scenarios. This comprehensive first-year experience equips students with the skills and mindset needed for deeper exploration in advanced studies and professional pathways.
