
Vasana Wickremasena
Vasana is a journalist, lawyer, civil society activist and an academic. He is the Group Executive Director of CICRA Holdings and had been instrumental in development of the Executive Masters’ Degree in Mass Communication.
He has a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Colombo (2001) and MA in Journalism from the Ateneo de Manila University, Philippines (2005). He has studied Media Law and Advocacy at the University of Oxford (2006) and Communication and Governance Reform at the World Bank Institute and the University of Annenberg (2011) in Washington DC.
He passed out as an Attorney-at-Law with Honours from Sri Lanka Law College (2000). During a fundamental rights violation petitions that he appeared for, the Supreme Court recognized the Right to Education as a fundamental right of Sri Lanka.
Vasana has served as a member of the bi-annual Asian Forum on Journalism initiated by the Asian Center for Journalism, Philippines. He also served as the Vice President of Society of Asian Journalists. A promoter of media self-regulation, Vasana served as the first Complaints Officer of the Press Complaints Commission of Sri Lanka (2003-2005) and served as the Secretary to the Code of Ethics Review Committee (2005). He also served as the Program Manager of the Advanced Certificate Program in Journalism at the Open University of Sri Lanka.
He was a Hary Brittain Fellow of the Commonwealth Press Union (2003) and Konrad Adenauer Fellow (2004-2005).
