G. Balachandran Iyer is currently working as Group Cyber Security Officer at Dialog AxiataPLC, Sri Lanka and he is responsible for ensuring cyber security at Dialog.
Before this appointment Bala was heading the Bank Computer Security Incident ResponseTeam (Bank CSIRT), a specialized national service unit that is responsible for receiving,reviewing, processing and responding to computer security alerts and incidents affecting the Banks and other Licensed Financial Institutions in the country.
Earlier, Bala was a lecturer at APIIT School of Computing. He has also worked as a
Technical Engineer and Systems Engineer respectively at ISN Solutions Pty Limited,
Australia and University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka.
Balachandran has served as member of four committees under the Ministry of Education,namely, Advisory Board for ICT, E-government policy & ICT Committee, Steering Committee– ICT in Education, and FOSS (Free & Open Source Software) Committee.
He has also served as a member of International Domain Name – Task Force and Local Language Working Group, both under the ICT Agency of Sri Lanka.
Balachandran is the prime contributor for developing the SLS 1326:2008 national standard, which includes Unicode Encoding, Keyboard Layout and Collation sequence for Tamil language in Sri Lanka.
Bala has authored number of research technical publications. He also authored around 10 literary books and won the state literary award for his book in 2014.
He has a BIT degree from Charles Sturt University, Australia, and a MSc in Computer
Science from a Sri Lankan university. He has also certified with several professional
qualifications including C|EH, C|HFI, EDRP – EC-Council, ENSA, CCNA, CCENT and SCJP.
